Responding to Audience Feedback for 2D Animation
I did, however, want to incorporate a comedy aspect.
I used the simplicity to my advantage and this is one aspect that I am happy with. My long dramatic introduction coupled with suspenseful music sets the audience up for something shocking when in actual fact the animation is simply a car driving back and forth.
I think the aspect I am most happy with is the use of soundtrack as I feel I used this cleverly and to my advantage. The stark juxtaposition between the two tracks (Hans Zimmer's "Inception Theme" and Bert Kaempfert's "Swinging Safari") certainly gives off a comedic element. My build up is also amplified by the titles being a couple of words at a time, building suspense, until the final pay off is saying that the car is blue, when in actual fact, its green. Although simple I do believe this gives something to the comedy being derived from the suspenseful build up and then the cheesey pay-off.
Here is the padlet link which I supplied for my audience to provide feedback:

The first thing someone noted was that in terms of actual animation, there isn't much there. I completely agree with this, as the titles do take up most of the animations total run time. This could be solved by maybe going with one original idea, which was to have a second part of the animation, after the car had gone back and forth along the roads. This was to have a closer-up side shot of the car with the scenery moving right to left, giving the impression of movement. This would have added a little more length and complexity to my animation.
Another person mentioned that there was perhaps an issue with the export which meant that the animation was not in full screen. If I were to re-do the animation I would certainly export correctly, as this is a simple and achievable change but one which would make a lot of difference to the audience.
It was also said that the titles go on for too long. This is also a fair criticism as I feel I was relying on the titles so much for narrative value that I perhaps neglected the actual animation. I think if I were to do the animation again I would keep the content of the titles, as I believe all the information is essential to the narrative, but I would certainly reduce the length of time for which each individual slide was on screen, from around 3 seconds (which I believe it is now) to maybe 1 second.
I am, however, not going to re-do my animation, so I will use these tips for future improvement in other projects.
